I just picked up a boss Dr-880, which is an awesome unit by the way, and I'm wondering what kind of software I need to back up the patterns I create as midi files (SMF). The machine offers a complete back-up option, but I want to be able to back up individual patterns so I can swap out different ones for different live sets, etc. What is the easiest way to do this via midi and a computer? I'm not too midi savvy, although I have figured out how to interface the unit with the pc with USB. I just don't know what software to use, or how. Anyone here know how to help?
Thanks
Keith

Try this. It's a free program called midiox, and it should let you capture, name and save SMF's providing you send them one at a time.

It will handle multiple files at one time too, but as far as I know there's no way to load them individually -- once they've been saved as a group they have to be reloaded as a group.

SMF's and system exclusive files are closely related, so here's another program you may want to try. This program is shareware, and you can either pay 20 euros or send the author a postcard.

Yep, a postcard.
