Hi

I'd like to know if anyone has advice on how to compress a vocal track. Rather than compressing as I record, I want to compress the vocal at a later stage in the mixing process. Does anyone have compression ratios, peak levels or technical figures I can use as a guideline?

the compressor is in "VST Dynamics" under Audio>Plug-ins

How you set up a compressor will depend entirely on the signal you put through it.

This article explains the various parameters on a compressor and does give some starting points for settings. Bear in mind though that starting points is all they are, there are no 'standard' settings for specific sound sources, once you learn to use a compressor you'll see what I mean.

good luck with it

i tend to chain a couple compressors on tracks, with vocals, one with faster attack and higher ratio (2:1 - 4:1) to grab spikes and one with slower attack and more moderate ratio to level things a bit.
