Theres just too many damn books available on the subject. Anyone know of a good book or two?

Recommended Reading

* Modern Recording Techniques - Huber & Runstein
* Total Recording - Dave Moulton
* The Art of Digital Audio - John Watkinson
* Project Studios: A Professional Approach - Phillip Newell
* Behind The Glass - Howard Massey
* The Mixing Engineer's Handbook - Bobby Owsinski
* Mastering Audio - The Art and the Science - Bob Katz

Also a good read is "Microphones: Technology and Technique" by John Borwick. It's an excellent book on both theory and application, though it focuses mainly on classical instruments.

Blue Bear's list is dead on! I might add Yamaha's Sound Reinforcement Hanbook as an all around reference manual.
