Hey guys,
I am new to this forum and looking for some knowledge with DIY recording. Ive been trying to track some bass and cant seem to get a very good sound. My path is ..MIA Fender Jazz>Aguilar AG500 DI out>Presonus Firepod>Macbook. My DAW is Logic 8 Pro(which wouldnt seem to make a difference).

My bass tone is just sort of dull sounding and when I try to give it some presence, I end up adding too much noise and static to the recording and it ends up sounding more horrible.

Has anybody else had any experience recording bass straight out of the DI from the AG500 head to their interface? Is this what my setup should sound like or am I doing something wrong? any help is appreciated, thanks!

This should work fine, have you tried experimenting with the DI out pre / post switching. With the post selected the EQ of the amp head is inline and will effect the tone of the bass, with it pre, the DI will basically connect the input to the output like a normal DI box.

I also have it ask about the condition of the strings, and make sure you run the tone on the actual bass either around neutral for an active, or full volume and treble on a passive. This will give you more scope to alter tone later.

Have you also tried running the amp and micing the speaker? and while doing this run the DI as well recording DI to 1 track and Mic to the other, blending the 2 later to get the sound you are after.

Cheers

Alan.
