Audiophile 24/96 help?

I was wondering if theres a way I can record digital audio strait to my pc just by using the audiophiles 2496? What cables are needed? I also wanted to know i can just hook my keyboard strait to the Audiophiles 2496 and record the sound from the keyboard. Im into making beats and recording vocals and i want to do this without using any amps can some help me out because im looking at buying this card if not what card are suggestion that is in the cheap price range?

Thank You

if you're into sequencing beats and you play keyboard, midi is the way to go....for vocals , you are going to have to have some kind of preamp to get the signal from a mic to the pc. the audiophile doesn't have preamps....if you already have a soundblaster just use it...it can do the midi stuff you want to do...so can an audigy...the cheap electronics on these cards won't make midi stuff sound worse, it might even work better since midi sequencing on a pc is more about drivers than hardware, and there are a lot of driver options for the soundblaster.

as far as vocals go, the soundcard would be the last thing i'd be worried about.

of course, if you ultimately want to record some stuff live, like a group, and multitrack it or mix to surround sound, none of the above applies.

You could plug your keyboard directly into the Audiophile to record and the Audiophile also has a midi I/O so you could record midi from the keyboard also. To get vocals in you'd need some kind of mixer or preamp. M-Audio the makers of the Audiophile card also make a nice little preamp called the Audio Buddy which you can buy for under a $100.00. A small mixer like a Mackie would be a better solution though. Then you could just plug your mics, instruments, and any other equipment you might have into the mixer and the mixer outputs into the AudioPhile. You should learn to use the midi on your keyboard too, it just opens up a lot more options when recording.

So what you guys mean is I wouldnt need a good soundcard if Im recording midi? Ok lets say I bought the audiophile and I use midi but I want to convert it into wav files how would go about and do that? Also Why I ask about recording vocals is Im also a rapper and I need a decent soundcard to record my voice as clean as possible or is it I need a good mic? Also one other thing I sometime like to play my keyboard live can I do this with the audiophile?

The audiophile will work just fine and dandy for audio and midi.
Converting from midi to audio is no problem. Forget the SB. Yes its fine for midi, but you will be more impressed with the audiophile.
Your original post stated digital input. As if to say a digital transfer from another device. If thats the case, no problem there either, as the audiophile has s/pdif connects as well.

Go for it !!!

Dont forget the SB! if he wants to do Midi he'll need some sort of synth......SB can do that fine and you can get them REALLY cheap.....

I always found my SB synth to be pretty cheesy, but I've moved on to professional softsynths and hardware now. No longer needed the SB onboard synth. I guess you use what you got until you can afford better.

Love the avatar.........wherd ya get it

The SB Live synth is not at all cheesy if you use some good Sound Fonts...

Maybe so Chuck, it just does'nt meet my standards {personal preference} not trying to discourage anyone.

I think he just wants a good card to record vocals and record his keyboard utilizing midi which the audiophile would be perfect for his situation.
