Recording and Playing Instrumental Simultaneously

yeah, if you should have two 3.5mm to 2 RCA cables; one for "tape out" to line in, one for line/speaker out to "tape in".

just remember to press the "cd/tape to control" button but not "cd/tape to mix".

because your vocals are coming straight from the mixer, you won't be able to adjust the volume of the vocals in your headphones without changing how loud the vocals record in the computer. however you can adjust the if the backing track and overall headphone level so if the backing track is too quiet turn it up on the computer. if the vocals are too quiet, turn the mix on the computer down and turn the headphone volume up.

infact, i just had a look at the manual and as a direct quote;

"If you are recording a signal via the TAPE OUTPUT and wish to
listen to this simultaneously via the CD/TAPE INPUT, do not use the CD/TAPE TO MIX switch. Doing this would create a feedback loop,
since the signal would be routed, via the main mix, back to tape via the TAPE OUTPUT. To monitor the CD/TAPE INPUT, use the CD/TAPE TO CTRL switch to assign the tape signal to the monitor(s) or headphones.
This will avoid the tape signal being routed to the TAPE OUTPUT."

this would suggest that my thinking is right :D

I suggest having a quick read of the manual (on the link above) as page 10 onwards is exactly what i've been saying.
 
Just tried it out and it works perfectly! I spent so much time trying to figure this out I thought I was going to go insane. Now I get to play with the actual software and practice mixing!! Thank u a million times over!!!

I use Mixcraft 5. In that, when you arm A track, you also need to select the incoming audio.
