Im just starting out with home recording and I'm about to help a guy at my church record an album from my laptop I'm using cubase for the whole process and i wanted to know is it possible to get a decent to good quality sounding cd from recording from home on a mac laptop
The CD will be CD quality no matter what, Could be CD quality awful rubbish or CD quality slice of heaven, That's up to you and will depend on, amongst other things:
*Well written well rehearsed materials
*Good musicians with the necessary chops to nail the songs
*Well thought out position of the musicians in an acoustic space to maximise the quality of the sound they produce
*well thought out mic choice and placement to capture the best possible recording
*Propper gain staging of the recording chains to maximise the quality of the signal going into the computer
*Someone to mix the recorded tracks (if indeed this will be multitracked) with a solid vision of what the final song needs to be, what as objectively as possible serves that musically and what does not and the knowledge authority and ability to cut away what is not needed and maximies what is
*And if this is to be brought up to something approching commercial CD volume (loudness) someone who understands how to EQ, compress, & limit a finished mix without sucking all the life out of it in the process
There's a lot more specifics in terms of gear, plugins, mics, etc etc but IMP that's all irrelvant if you dont have the above
