I have read the instruction manuals for the boss br1180cd and the alesis sr-16 over and over. However, I have yet to sync time of both units and record a drum program. I have tried every combination of settings and I just cannot seem to get the two units to cooperate. I do not like the built in drum machine of the br1180 and I desperately need drums. Does anyone have the combination I need to unlock this great mystery? Thanks so much.

The 1180 can only be the master, try midi channel 10, this works on my DR-5.

Hey. I have had my old kick start SR16 for a long time, and got a BR1180 I guess about a year and a half ago. I have tried several times to lock the drummer up to the recorder and have indeed have rended my garment and gnashed my teeth, but no dice. I, like you, began to fear that THIS thing here was never going to work this thing over here. Bugger.

Last night I found it, and I guess I look like a plain fool for not thinking of it right away. Here's the deal. I realized the recorder has to be the master, so I went to Utility/MIDI and systematically tried everything on the page but again, nothing. Turns out it's not on the MIDI page at all . Goto Utility, then SYNC instead of MIDI. Top line says Gen (rolandese for generate) Change the MTC to MIDI CLOCK, and Bob's your Uncle.

Of course you still need the SR16 to have 'clock in' Set to on, and a trusty MIDI cable between the recorder's Midi out and the SR16 MIDI in.

Curses. No reason not to do that meticulous drum programming I've had in mind.

Peace! Everywhere, please.

and the wild ride begins.....Have you created a song with the D-16 yet...?if not

I strongly recommend not using preset patterns (or just one looped) learn to write individual sections using patterns it will sound a million times more musical.Good luck
