I'm planning on recording a piano soon, and I wanted to get some advice on mic setup from you gurus out there. The piano is an upright, played in a relatively large room (high ceiling). It currently sits up against a wall, but that could be changed (should that be changed?). The floors are tiled and the walls are smooth, but the natural sound of the room is pretty good, not too bright or reverby. I'm going for a gentle and warm but not totally weak tone.
I have at my disposal:
Rode NT1, NT1a, and NT3
a few SM-57's.
AKG D112
AKG C1000s
AKG D790
a few other low-end dynamics
and access to a few other mics if necessary (another NT3, etc.)
I'm recording into an Aardvark Q10 using CPA9.
Lemme know doods.
Peter
