I've got a family coming into the studio to record some Christmas music. They're good musicians but haven't recorded before so they'd like to do it with everyone playing at the same time.
I've worked out something I think will work but would like other opinions. See the attached diagram. Stereo pair on strings, single mic on flute, another on clarinet. The piano player will be playing a midi keyboard that will drive loud speakers located in the same room as the musicians. To get rid of the piano bleed, I plan on using a trick where you record the piano a second time through the mics shown and flip the phase.
The room dimensions are 15' x 21'. There is plenty of bass trapping and absorption (not shown)
