hi i got some problems recording black metal vocals

It dosnt sounds evil just dry and the reverb sounds like a shower =(

i got a presonus firepod and using a ADK A51e microfon

tell me some trix plz =)

Use distortion and pitch shift the vocals one octave high, and one low.

almost black metal voice is tracked by a crappy mic and the result is good for black metal if that's something like burzum,mayhem..etc you are talking about.
sm57 works too!just depends how you sing it.:D

how about the reverb then ? should i use reverb? and if so how much ?

yes, just very very little to match your music.
too much reverb wii make your vocal track not strong enough in that kind of metal's voice.try gain more distortion by your throat:D
what exactly black metal you play?

ok thanx for the tips.....hmm dont really knows hehe its like dark funeral but not that fast =P

Evil? If you want a true black metal sound, just record with a 4 track. Thats what Transylvanian Hunger by darkthrone was done with. TRUE Black metal says no to good production.

hehe im not in to get bad quality

dark funeral had bad quality on the old records but the latest one Dark Funeral - Diabolis interium has grejt quality i think =) but i can not get that sound i guess because im a noob =(

It's really all about getting the right distortion sound. If you have access to a RAT pedal, try working that sound into the mix.

what you have to take into consideration is "how" you sing.

Hitting the notes and nailing the words isn't as important as getting the emotion across.

Case and point, Chino from Deftones. Half the time you can't understand what the **ck he says, but his message still gets across.

Get the right singer. I have worked with a few bands where the vocals came out just fine on a good mic, with very little reverb, and NO distortion.

I tested distorson but it didnt sound good...now i have put a small reverb and fix the eq, and now it sounds a litte bether

do u recording 2 vocals ?

I have recording 1 in mono

sorry for my english

Use a decent mic (sm58beta) run it though something analog somewhere along the path to botch it alittle. I've tried distorion and usually it's too coloured with this instant buzz effect...and you kinda gotta find an old overdrive pedal or something that would be too lame for heavy guitar to get the voicing right. The trick is to make it fit with the overall sound but not expose the method (...to hear it). Once you find the right tone, back it off a little or record a clean track at the same time to mix in later.
All that's digital is taking quite a toll on vocal sounds, I don't want my favourite metal vocalists to sound crystal clear like foo fighters. That takes something away.

Must test that....i have an verry old marshall top that have litte dist maby that will be god
