when you guys use recorderman method one mic is pointed at the snare and where is the other mic pointed at?

I haven't done this or read about it in a while, but I believe that the other mic is pointed toward the right side of the set... toms.

Nope.

Do a search. I put up a detailed explanation of how it works.

Ive only used the Recorderman technique a time or two so someone may have to correct me, its been a while. I had my right side mic facing into the kit. I guess if it were pointed somewhere, it would be the lower rim of the 1st rack tom. Spacing would depend on where the mic ended up after you do your measurements.
I've seen this one outlined in detail a few times (I don't know if Ive seen BGavins) and for some reason there are always a few confusing parts. I always managed to get a good stereo image pointing the mic the way I described above.

im so frustrated.. i cvant get the hi hat to sound more subtle! im going mad!!

Sometimes a little compression on the overheads can tame down cymdals some and help bring out the drums more... not too much compression tho, or it will sound more like an effect.

I point both straight at the center of the snare.

For the hi-hat... move it out a little, hit it softer.
