hello... i am recording drums and i want to be able to record the individual drums and cymbals on separate tracks on my cakewalk sonar 2 software... what do i need? thanks!

A soundcard that will handle as many inputs as you want to record individual tracks, and an equivalent number of pre-amps.coreyB said:

my drummer already has the appropriate mics for his set... i'm just curious as to what models i should be looking into i guess and will this bypass my current soundcard... does cakewalk just recognize that the new soundcard has multiple tracks coming in and it can separate them? since i have my creative labs audigy 2 soundcard right now can i just add another soundcard and use that to come up with a two track system?

Yes.
You can use your Audigy to do two tracks. The Line In connection is stereo. You can use the right for one track and the left for a second. Get a "Y" connector cable from Radio Shack with the appropriate connections.

so how can i record two separate tracks? what i want to do is record the drum mix (everything but the kick) in stereo (coming from a mixer - stereo because i have two overheads panned left and right) and have that as track 1 and then have the kick drum as track 2... ?

Dachay just answered what you can do with what you have. Need to get a beefier card if you want more.

All drums but the kick in stereo is two tracks, the kick alone is another... but there are only two available to you.
