Hey LongWave...

Indeed a song can sound great w/out click...just saying the advantages of using it, specially for later edition... if the drummer can't use it, we shouldn't force him...

...we should fire him...LOL

Peace...

Usually any drummer who is good enough not to need a click can play with one. It's the guys who need it that cant.

Right on, brother! I do a lot of writing, and when I have ideas and parts of the song form and tempo down, I create a midi file. I do a little midi sequencing for drums, then record audio scratch tracks. I cut and paste until I get a form down. Then I play it for whoever is recording with me. We practice so that the form is learned and I let the click track fly. If the song has tempo changes, you can set that up in the software no sweat.

Its kind of nice to hear older recordings that are not as tight. Sometimes music today sounds like a computer game.

What did they use in the olden days of Led Zeppelin? I guess they could have click tracks on an actual track back then, just using a metronome. Anyone know abou this?

if the drummer can play to click, that's great, and if the song requires a constant tempo throughout, then use click

BUT, if he's uncomfertable, i never force a drummer, because it's only going to reflect in his playing.

click definitley has a lot of advantages, especially the fact of quantizing any MIDI data, or syncing arpegiators. but if im doing your average 5 piece oasisy guitar band, i rarely use click in that case.

Ive' messed around with some various Beatles recordings, and it's pretty obvious that they never came anywhere near a metronome.

To me, it just takes too much of the human element out of it all. Like you may as well just use samples or a machine if you want perfect tempo and timing.

Right on Chess!!

Depends on what your doing , do you think Kyuss use a click? i doubt it but the Chemical brothers would when they do use live drummers (dying breed...? nah).
