Well ive been working for pro tools for about 3 years, a year and a half of them i have had it at home. I recently mixed my friends band, and although it sounded pretty good there was a few times where i thought hey i really wish i had this plug-in.

All i have is the bog standard plug-in set that comes with the Mbox2, 2 EQ's and the rest is just standard digi design stuff.

I also have Cubase and was wondering if it is better to use the VST plugins for that as i have quite a few. But the only thing is i don't want to do is shove pro tools to the the background as it is the better program but just expensive to use properly.

Really wish i could interlink the 2 but don't think vst stuff can be run on pro tools.

Anyone got any tips to help me?

What sort of processing are you looking for? Reverbs, eq's, comressors, etc?

I was just about to post a similar thread..
Starting out with pro tools m-powered and am looking for the following plugins.. Any advice appreciated:

Amp Modeller
Keyboard Virtual Instrument ( for use with USB keyboard)
Other effects (chorus, flanger etc..)

I have the Bombfactory and digi ones that come with m-powered.

Amp modeling would be good, a multiband compressoer is a must. Some decent EQ's and compressors. and then just some other plugins like vocal plug-ins and things just to polish my songs.

cheapest and best option...buy the VST wrapper for Pro Tools LE from FXpansion. Then you can use almost any VST plugin in PT (and there are a ton of free ones).

Depends on how much you want to spend. Download the Massey Plugins to start. Demos don't run out or add noise. No mulitband though. You could check out the McDSP Project Studio Package (LE versios of their eq, compression, synth program, some basic amp modeling I think) but the compression isn't multiband. You'll need to spend another $300 to get the McDSP multiband. You could check izotope products out. Ozone has multiband, Trash has some amp modeling. To get anything from Waves with multiband I think you'd need to get the Gold Bundle so unless you're looking to drop $1000 their products would be out. There are downloadable demos of all of these so it's best to test them out before buying. For synth programs go to Native Instruments and GForce. NI is generally better from what I've seen but GForce has some good classic synths and a good Moog plugin.

The VST wrapper is a good idea, even better since you already have a bunch of plugins. There are some issues with it crashing with some plugins (check the forums on the FXpansion website) but overal it works pretty good.

I may have a huge smile on my face if this thing isen't pricey, sounds like exactly what ive been looking for.
