I really ended up with my Chandler kind of on accident. When I bought it I was actually looking at more expensive Neve and API pre's. I was pricing them and each of the first three places that I called asked me if I had ever heard the Chandler when they found out what I was looking for. Thats when I decided that I needed to give the Chandler a try. I bought it from a place with a good return policy. I never gave it back
For a bass/mono keys DI..perhaps a Avalon U5 which is very good for a "cleaner" sound or a GT Brick for DI{pre..I've never used one}..I don't know if they still make the Ditto.. as a way to go also.. there are so many choices
Most acoustic guitars, most all electric guitars, vocals, strings etc... It may not always be the best match, but is always impressive. The only thing that it hasn't really impressed me on yet is drums. However, it does sound great on overheads.
