Can anyone recommend a solder and/or defluxing spray that they use when they mod their microphones or amps? I will be modding a microphone soon and I want to make sure to keep the noise to its minimum. Thanks in advance!

I use Techspray's Flux Remover, and specifically do NOT recommend Chemtronics. I nearly sent a nastygram to them after I went through two cans in a week; two cans of Techspray lasts me two months  That stuff is way too volatile, and would evaporate before the flux actually got removed! Rubbing alcohol worked better  But my anger has subsided . . . somewhat. So don't buy Chemtronics.

Use a brush to clean off heavily soiled areas; spray the brush with the solvent, then scrub away. Keep the solvent away from the capsule! If you have removed the PCB (hopefully), immediately after scrubbing spray until runoff then dry with compressed air. The brush-scrubbing will otherwise just evenly distribute the flux residue . . .

Note that it's really only important at the capsule FET where stray capacitance could degrade noise performance; after that it's largely cosmetic.
