What are good mics for Rock/Pop drum overheads? I would like to purchase a pair of small condensors that cost no more than $600-$700 but it would be great to spend less.

Thank you for your recommendations!

just a suggestion

heya,

have you considered using AKG C1000s??????

As far as I know, they are a good mic for overheads (i'm sure people here will tell me i'm full of sh:eek:t)

also, AKG put them in with their Drum kit sets (of microphones)

see ya later

Personal favorites would be (from most expensive to least expensive):

Neumann KM-183 Omnis.
Neumann KM-184 Cardioids.
Earthworks Omnis (Forgot the model #)
T.H.E. KP-6M Omnis
Shure SM-81 Cardioids.
Audix TR-40
Crown CM700 Cardioids
Oktava MC012 w/Omni capsule.
Oktava MC012 w/Cardioid capsule.
Marshall 603S

In the high budget range, I would go for the KM-183, the Earthworks, or the KP-6Ms first. In the mid-budget range, I would go for the Audix TR-40, and at the low end, I would go with the Oktava MC012 w/Omni capsule, or the Marshall MXL-603S.

But any of the above mics will do an excellent job for overheads.

call me crazy....but.......CAD M39

plus it has continous variable pickup patterns. :)

I have a pair of the 603s' that do a good job.
