Hi

I am new to all this and have decided to make my own home studio and want to learn about all things studio!!!

I am going travelling first for 8 months and really want a good book on it so I can read all about sound, midi, guide to studio etc etc. so that when I get back I will know a bit more and can then put it to practise.

Thanks.

OK I have just seen on the recording page a list of books!!!!

Well if you know any more.....

Recording books, link to list.

Highly Recommended:
The Mixing Engineers Handbook
The Recording Engineers Handbook

The books recommended already are fine, but don't do midi any justice.

Here are links to two good articles on midi basics - part one and part two. There are three more articles in this same series on the same site - parts three, four and five. Print these out and you will have an understanding of what midi is and what it can do in no time.

Good luk finding a decent book. It seems that your best bet is to read these music forums. They have the info from the guys doing it. Not some dimwit author that finally gets a book printed after technology changes.

I have "Home Recording for Musicians for Dummies". I found it to be an excellent primer for recording, especially if you don't know what the crap you're doing. With it you can get your feet wet in just about anything related to home recording.
