I'm using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. I would like to record electronic drums thru the LINE IN and record a real hi-hat thru the MIC input.

My Windows 98 will only let me select one or the other. Aside from having a LEFT and RIGHT record channel, Pro Audio has a STEREO channel.

Is there any way I can do this?

Chances are, your card probably only has two converters. That's why it doesn't wanna let you choose both. It can only do one stereo pair or the other.

You probably wanna avoid the mic-in, anyway. I've never used it, but I've heard horror stories about the quality due to the cheap, cheap, cheap preamps built-in to those cards. Line-in is usually okay, especially to get started with. It's pretty easy to dub in the real hats (and anything else, for that matter). It's just a little less convenient.

If you are using a SB Live I believe you're gonna have a problem with that since the
SB mixer only lets you select one input to record from at a time.
Just a thought. I hear a lot of folks choose to use the Windows mixer instead of the
SB Live mixer for reasons such as this. pete o
