The secret to the correction is in the levels, I. Imagine this, with the top being lower levels and the bottom being more out front .... side to side is pan:
ssssssssssGGssssssssGGsssssssssssss
sssssssssssVVVVVVVVVssssssssssssss
ssssssssssssVVVVVVVssssssssssssssss
sssssssssssssVVVVVsssssssssssssssss
sssssssssssssssVVVssssssssssssssssss
ssssssssssssssssvvssssssssssssssssss
The V's represent the vocal "block" up center created by both the guitar and vocal parts ... because guitar and vocals tend to occupy the same frequency range, and therefore compete w/ each other to be heard. This is what's happening here, the guitars are trying to be heard "around/behind" the vocal, so by consequence, the impression level is a "front and center" mix of vocal, with indistinct guitars sort of hidden behind. The GGs are where the guitars hit at around 40% panned behind the dominant vocal. The s represents stage space, but it there primarily because of the auto-justify killing the graphic.
OTOH:
sssssssssssVVVVVVVVVsssssssssss
ssssssssssssVVVVVVVsssssssssssss
sssssssssssssVVVVVVsssssssssssss
ssssssssssssssVVVVVssssssssssssss
GGGsssssssssssVVVssssssssssssGGG
ssssssssssssssssvvssssssssssssssss
... moves the guitars away from the vocal field and brings their levels up to compete more evenly -- which gives the listening impression that the vocals is sitting in a "pocket" of the music versus hiding the music. The effect is achieved by panning them a little wider and bringing the levels up.
