I like this ido. I like the melodies, progressions and arrangement. Intro reminds me a little of The Power of Love. The mix sounds good on headphones, everything pops thru clearly. My only other comment is that you seem to have mixed it politely as in more of a ballad than a rocker. Nice job

Nice bass sound and level.
Terrific remix.
Terrific song.
Terrific!
You might have to do an alt. mix for the rock fiends! It'd be a good exercise when you get the time.

Thanks Bull and Ray - any suggestions as far as mixing this for the rock crowd...?

Everything sounds great to me! Great feel, cool style, nice lyrics. Awesome!

What a great song, Gerry!
Really love your voice on this and the harmonies in the chorus sound great!
You don't need another version of this, it's perfect this way... (take it from a rocker!:D)

Joe :):)

Thanks Jen and Joey...maybe I can forego the rocker mix for now then...!:D

Sounds real good, dig the guitar fills between the verses, and found myself wishing they were kicked up a bit in the mix, they were pretty tasty:D.
Great vocal, very smooth. This kinda has a Early Dire Straits vibe to it, which I really like. Great solo around 2:50, wish it was longer ;)!

To my ears, bud, the stage balances are slightly out ... with the stream of sound coming up a bit narrow center, akin to sort of a mono mix.

Most of this is a levels issue. You've got the vocal distinctly forward from the rest of the music bed, particularly the guitars ... so the impression is the mix is a vocal up center w/ the rest happening somewhere behind the stage curtain ... because the vocal is quite in the way of hearing what's going on behind it.

I think the pan scheme is okay, but you want to seat the vocal in the music bed and have it tucked into the center with the rest of the band clearly filling the sound stage l/r around it.

For instance, the lead work is an essential element to this mix, but you have to strain to hear what's being played. Don't be afraid to step that performance forward and swing it out of the way of the vocal sound stream by placing it further to the sides one way or the other. IMO, it should be right out w/ the front man as a mix feature ...

I'd also add just a touch of bite/grit to it to give it both edge and aural interest ... as well as define it better in the mix.

Keep in mind, all this is what I'd do if my hands were on the controls ... but my main concern would be widening/biggening the sound stage.

Best,

Kev-

Thanks Kev for the detailed feedback. I'll look into trying to tuck the vocals into the mix abit more. The compression really helped bring the vocals up during the verse where, due to the lower melody range, were at time inaudible. A tweak on the output gain should help...

The panning seems mono but the guitars are 40% L/R, Drums 25% L/R and harmonies 18% R. The two big guns, lead vocals and lead guitar are straight down the middle which may be the reason...

Thanks Again! :)

The secret to the correction is in the levels, I. Imagine this, with the top being lower levels and the bottom being more out front .... side to side is pan:

ssssssssssGGssssssssGGsssssssssssss
sssssssssssVVVVVVVVVssssssssssssss
ssssssssssssVVVVVVVssssssssssssssss
sssssssssssssVVVVVsssssssssssssssss
sssssssssssssssVVVssssssssssssssssss
ssssssssssssssssvvssssssssssssssssss

The V's represent the vocal "block" up center created by both the guitar and vocal parts ... because guitar and vocals tend to occupy the same frequency range, and therefore compete w/ each other to be heard. This is what's happening here, the guitars are trying to be heard "around/behind" the vocal, so by consequence, the impression level is a "front and center" mix of vocal, with indistinct guitars sort of hidden behind. The GGs are where the guitars hit at around 40% panned behind the dominant vocal. The s represents stage space, but it there primarily because of the auto-justify killing the graphic. :D

OTOH:

sssssssssssVVVVVVVVVsssssssssss
ssssssssssssVVVVVVVsssssssssssss
sssssssssssssVVVVVVsssssssssssss
ssssssssssssssVVVVVssssssssssssss
GGGsssssssssssVVVssssssssssssGGG
ssssssssssssssssvvssssssssssssssss

... moves the guitars away from the vocal field and brings their levels up to compete more evenly -- which gives the listening impression that the vocals is sitting in a "pocket" of the music versus hiding the music. The effect is achieved by panning them a little wider and bringing the levels up.

I'm on cheapo laptop earbuds, but I can tell the vocals came out much better and more consistent than your previous mixes. I can't comment on the rest of the mix, but so far sounds great.

I'll listen again when I get home. Cheers,

Liking this new mix ido.

The vocals (smooth and well performed as always) are much clearer throughout. Two things though...I am hearing a strange almost sizzling/fizzy artifact-like residue on some upper mids (guitars and vocals), and the bass, while bassier, is perhaps not as defined as it could be? I dunno...am on pc speakers w/ sub, but that is how I always hear stuff in the clinic...so relatively speaking it may mean something or it may not. No one else has similar observations...so...

Overall, I much prefer this mix for the increased "punch" factor...still "polite", but punchier :).

Thanks Chili and Heatmiser ! The bass is eq'd with a good amount of boost at 3000K (as recommended by Rayc) for definition. It is a Rickenbacher into a Fender Head into an 8X10... :D:cool::D:cool:

Sounds good Ido. Maybe your best mix that I can remember. Vocals sound really good.

I think I'd like the guitars wider, but that's just me. Solo sounds good. It sounds pretty damn good as is. All it's lacking is some kick ass drums.

Hey Gerry, This is a cool song. Thanks for posting again. :D The mix sounds just fine. But I would not object to some more bass. Overall, catchy, punchy, got me moving, and humming..... OMG!!!! Oh Noezzzz!!! you're Britney Spears!!!! Wait I don't listen to Britney Spears.... I don't know where that comment came from.

that's what I hear too.
