If the above link doesn't work go to http://costco.com go to "electronics and pianos" menu, then click on "musical instruments" and check out pages 3-5. :eek:

Yep, real Gibsons, Ibanez, Yamaha, etc., etc., and so forth...All priced about 3X what I'd pay...

As I stated on the FDP...

If you read the fine print, it states that Costco is NOT an "Authorized Dealer" of Gibsons, which means both that they can advertise and sell below MAP, and that the Gibson Warranty is VOID on any guitar they sell.

Still, that dot 335 is $300 less than the usual suspects.

My kid wants to know if you can buy them one at a time or if you have to buy a pallet-load???

You just have to buy one guitar.

But it's a 74" scale, which makes it just over 6-feet tall. :D:D

I hate to burst your bubble but those prices don't look any better than most others have to offer. I have a friend who owns a music store so I have access to Gibson's wholesale (to authorized dealers) prices, and those are definately NOT "at cost" prices.

But theyre at less than 10 point margin, which is less than any dealer who wants to stay in business will sell at.

I have Gibsons dealer costs too.

Still, no warranty. You may as well buy a used one fror even less.

I stand by my statement;

...And will add that my comment applies to any instrument at any outlet, warranty or not... :rolleyes:

Actually I have a few nice instruments, including a Spector 4 string, a Seagull S-6 cedar, an Ensoniq SD-1, and this;

Finished1.sized.jpg

...Which was built by a friend of mine (even the neck is handmade), and plays better than any guitar I've ever touched...I did have to paint it myself...

The Spector was a gift (some girls show their affection in the weirdest way when you're a road musician...), the Ensoniq was a gift, the Seagull was $200 on ebay, and the home-job Stetto-caster was---you guessed it--A gift....Though the auto paint and clearcoat cost me around a hunnert bucks...

I see no reason to spend over a grand on a guitar....or even close to a grand for a guitar...

I see that Cotsco is selling the Gibson LP double-cutaway faded (with P-90s) for $649.00, and the AMS price for that guitar is $769.00.

That's just another example - it does look like the prices are very good.

...and here is Cotsco's warranty disclaimer:

"This item is covered by Costco's guarantee to refund your purchase price if you are not completely satisfied. Costco's guarantee applies, even though this item may not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty, because Costco is not an "authorized" dealer of the merchandise."

Note that it says "may not be covered." I wonder how you find out one way or the other? :confused:

Ah. I found the warranty statement on Gibson's web site. The warranty explicitly excludes "Any instrument that has been purchased from an unauthorized dealer, or upon which unauthorized repair or service has been performed."

So - you pays your money, and you takes your chances! ;)

I wouldn't buy a guitar that way but for those that do and you've got issues with it, get your money back from Costco, they're not going anyplace. It's not like you're buying it out of the trunk of Guido's Lincoln.

So I'm assuming that if you ordered a Gibson guitar and you found something wrong with it, Costco would take it back and refund your money under their warranty program. And if nothing was wrong with it, the Gibson warranty wouldn't matter anyway. So where's the beef? That faded double cut with P-90's for $649 is sounding better and better to me... ;)

No beef from me!

I've owned three Gibsons over the years, and none of them ever had any warranty issues.
