Hey guys...

After reading the above, I thought I would try running the dual channel mode. I've got an Athlon XP 2100+ and an Abit NF7. However, when I tried the sticks in the two slots furthest from the CPU like was noted, the system didn't boot...I only got one long beeeep from the motherboard that it kept repeating (in protest, seemingly). I tried them in the 1st and 3rd positions, and it did the same thing.

They work in the two slots closest to the cpu, but it doesn't say "dual" or anything like that. Any idea whats up?

sheez

just go one stick of 512 and keep your other slots open for upgrade, pc 2700 will work better with your processor if you cant control bus speeds just for your ram, overclock by changing the multiplier(so it doesnt effect the ram) if possible and go for 2.0ghz use a copper cooler and a mid rpm fan, I have no problems with mine 2.0 is conservative enough from 1.8 youll be ok

Yeah, the two closest to the CPU are in the same channel.

As for why the system only did the "no memory" beep (at least that's what it sounds like from your description) when populating the 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 3rd I'm not sure. Are the two DIMMs basically identical?

Are they matched memory. What are there characteristics? Try reseting bios from jumper or battery prior to reboot.

No, they are not identical. Maybe that's the problem. One is 512mb of Corsair DDR PC2700 and the other is 512mb Crucial PC2100.

Does that mean they won't run in dual mode even set to the slower timing?

Do you need the EXACT same stick (brand, model, etc.) to do such a thing?

It's suggested but there are exceptions I quess. I don't think you'll get that to run though.

Oops I forgot, That beep if consistant is the beep code for memory , Try re populating the slots, they maynot be in correctly. I tend to do that when I'm in a rush myself
good luck
