re-amp question

i use a mackie onyx 1620 with firewire as my interface, and it only draws one stereo signal from the computer. i want to get into re-amping and the way i had it figured i would have to have at least one more output to run to the amp in order to hear the re-amped signal and the rest of the song at the same time. - i would use the stereo out from the mackie to play the rest of the song and run the dry guitar signal out seperatley, into the re-amp box then to the amp - and mic it. i was just wondering if i had it figured right - and if so, what peice of gear people might suggest to get some more analog outputs from my DAW.

i was also curious if anyone had experiance re-amping from tape - i have an otari mx5050 1/2" 8-track as well

My advice would be to mute everything but the guitar you wanna re-amp, take the guitar from the mackie out to the amp, and mic it back to the mackie.
In the end, you are just re-amping, you don't need to hear the song again as if you were playing.
 
thanks for the response. the reason i wanted to hear it in context would be to adjust the tone on the amp, mic placement, stomp boxes i might use, etc.. So i wanted to hear the re-amped guitar tone with the song.
 
I've done it from tape. For clean tones, you can get away with it. For distorted tones, the tape hiss becomes a problem.
