My friend gave me this RCA to RCA patch bay, and i was wondering if i should even bother hooking it all up. Ive been needing a patch bay, but would using a RCA be way worse than using a balanced type patchbay?

Not worse, just unbalanced...uh, ok, yes worse... 
I have an old Tascam bay with rca's in the rear...When I replace that bay with a balanced TRS bay, all those rca cables will have to be replaced too...If ya haven't noticed, Hosa and others are rather proud of their little 12-18" patch cables...Could cost ya a lot, or a little more...
