Master of the Obvious
I have searched, for a hour and a half... this might seem like a simple question, and it is, but I still don't know the answer.

I have a Aardvark sound card w/ auxiliary RCA outs at consumer -10dBu. Going to Event 20/20p monitors. They will except XLR or 1/4" input plugs wired either balanced or single-ended. TRS or XLR for balanced or TS for unbalanced.

For the last 2 years I've been using 1/4" to RCA cables (all in one) I think they're TS but not sure. I now need em to be longer and went and got a couple of Mono to Mono Gold Plated 1/4" to RCA adapters and thought I could use instrument /guitar cables (TS).

But is it better to use XLR cables? Or better yet what is the best way to go about this connection?

One thing I did learn in my search was that it doesn't matter the length from the RCA outs to the inputs of the monitors... which was a concern.

Thanks for any input,
B.

OK, I found some info, does this sound right?...

Since my RCA outs are -10dBa then I should just use TS Guitar/Instrument cables and have no need to use XLR or TRS unless the length will be very long.

Any Recommendations?

B.

Because the RCA outs are unbalance, 1/4 to RCA is the only way you can go, but don't use a guitar cable, use gold-plated RCA to RCA with adaptors.

Ok! So if you wouldn't mind taking a look at these links..

The first one is what I got... but I'll take em back and get the 274-884. Kinda funny the Gold one is $1 less than the silver one.?.

Cable- I think the 2nd one looks best here, ya think it's worth 2x as much?...

Is it the shielding that is better on these than the TS/guitar cable?
I have em hooked up right now w/ the TS cables and it sounds good, but I need to get some permenant ones anyway.

Thanks,
B.
