Alright, I bought me a new mic today, I'm not gonna say which one...could anyone list these in the order of best to worst, best being #1, or at least top 3? Best for vocals, that is...possibly vocals & guitar amp...but just vocals for now.

Shure Beta 58A
Shure SM58
Shure AXS3
AKG D790

Also, which condenser is better? The AKG C1000 or the C3000? This will be used for drum overhead and vocals.

My preference, probably not the same as most of the people round here, but anyway:

AGK D790 (Cause it is hot)
Shure Beta 58 (Nice for Live)
Shure SM-58 (I don't really like these that much)
Shure AXS3 (Not familiar with this model)

As for condensors, I like both of them a whole lot. I think the C1000s is cheaper, so more bang for the buck. Outside of that, not really sure. I have not used the 3000 much.

Thanks for the reply, I got the D790. The guy at Guitar Center talked me into it...he let me try em all out, and I did notice a difference between all of them...and it does have a nice warm sound. I actually saw the C1000 and C3000 for the same price ($199.99) in Musician's Friend, Winter 2000 issue...limited quantity though...hopefully I can still get that deal.

It's just a regular C3000...not C3000B. Does that make a huge difference? I'm assuming the plain C3000 was discontinued.

The C1000 would be best for drum overheads. Because it's a small diaphragm condensor, it picks up transients much more quickly. These mics are usually used as drum overhead mics to pick up the cymbals and hit-hat.

The C3000 would be best for vocals. Because it's a large diaphragm condensor, it tends to 'smooth' out a vocal performance and make it sound warmer than a small diaphragm mic.

If you can get a C3000 for $199, go get it. It is a great vocal mic.

Would the C1000 still be really good for vocals? And would the C3000 handle drum overhead really well?
