man, ebay is such a double edged sword... I love the selection, but man it tee's me off when I miss a 1 or 2 day auction and a 421 goes for under $150, or when I'm bidding on something within the last minute, thinkin' I'm good to go and it jumps outta my price range and the item's worth in about 20 seconds.... bah! soooo anyone got some mics they wanna sell to me? 421's and SDC's are what I need... oh well, I'm still young at this, and keeping my eyes open... I just wish there were a way to communicate with the other buyers so that if they are going to spend more money on a mic anyway, I won't have to waste their time and money with my bids.

sorry about the long rant, I just missed a couple good deals. blahah!

Wesley,

I know the feeling. It is tough, but as you probably already know . . . persistance pays. Just keep on trying, and good things will come to you -- I promise.

A good suggestion might be to make good use of your "My Ebay" watch page. Use an alarm clock if you have to. Anything you can think of to make sure you're at your computer for the final minutes of an auction that's important to you, because 99% of all auctions are won during the final seconds of bidding. I don't even bother placing a bid until maybe 20 seconds before the end of the auction. It's really the only way.

Keep on trying and good luck to you.

You're also getting beat by people using services that use high speed computers to place bids in the last 3 seconds, faster than anyone can type. This is called "ebay sniping". If you can't beat'em, join 'em. Check out www.esnipe.com . You can get one month of the service for free. It's the only way to beat the other snipers.-Richie

Snipers don't worry me at all. In the end it all depends on how high the maximum bids are set. Snipers don't outbid you when your maximum bid is higher than theirs.

And if a sniper takes it over your maximum bid in the last few seconds, what is the difference with someone outbidding you a day early?
Just set yourself a limit and be done with it or you'll end up spending more than you really want.

For some reason used 421s sell for 100-120 euros over here. I even picked up a pair for 80,- each. There seems to be a bit of a surplus here.

Exactly. Sniping doesn't worry me because if they decide to spend more than the ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM I am willing to pay then its not a problem.

Yea, that's all fine and dandy . . .

But basically, something like this could very quickly and expediently drive the bidding price of your item up much closer -- or even right up to -- your "absolute maximum," so that once you do win the item, you wind up paying more than you would have if there were no guys with esnipe driving your price up.

Granted, it might not have gone beyond your maximum, but it wasn't allowed to go way under it either.

ahh, chess, I agree with you... but I think I've found a decent deal on some equip... 421, a m-audio dmp3, and a 57 for $340. I need these things, so I think I'll take it... all in great condition, so as soon as I get some pics, it'll be good to go... cross my fingers... now I just need a matched pair of SDC's... and a tlm103, ohh and of course I should try those ocktava's I keep hearing about... and then upgrade to an avalon... hmm... better hold on to this managament job for a while. damn, looks like guitar lessons will have to serve as supplemental pay for a while...
