Never heard the original (I'm a fan but not a "nut"), but I know exactly what it sounds like just judging from your version. Dude if you put out a tribute album, I'll buy it.

Kick ass!

dude, awesome! as good if not better than the original.

sure you're not in the queers or screeching weasel?

Yeah, man! That rocks!

That's Ramones rock, all the way!

Though I'm another "nut", I've never heard this one! I'll have to find it somewhere!

The Ramones are smiling down on you for your great tributes! ;)

it was originally a b-side to 'howling at the moon', i think?
Yup. I have it on vinyl. Side A was 'Howling at the Moon' and side B was "Smash You" and a cover of the Rolling Stones "Street fighting Man".

Thanks for the compliments. :)

Thanks. I hope they're smiling cuz I hope to jam with them when I die.

Like mentioned already, this song was re-released as a bonus track on the new 'Too Tough to Die' album. Or, give me your email and I can email you the MP3.

Well, I have the album, so I'll check.

Yeah, the Ramones rock!

You rock!

Rock on! ;)

Here's my take on a semi-rare and obscure Ramones tune that never made it on a studio album. It was only released as a B-side in 1984. I'm a total Ramones nut, and this ones always been one of my favorites.

"Smash You"

Any comments welcome.

Thanks,

Sounds great! I am also a big Ramones fan is this is right on! The backup vocals sound right on - the guitars are perfect - nice sound.. do you use a drum machine...
The one "Oh" did sound like Dice Clay though... ha..ha..

Nice job

Thanks. Those are real drums. Everyhting played by me. Getting a good Ramones guitar tone is a lot more difficult than it seems, so thanks for that.

Man - the drums sound great - I need to work on my drum sound bad!!! What do you use to record them? And how - is that posted somewhere already?

Thanks a lot. I don't do anything fancy for the drums. I use an old and cheap 5-pc Rogers kit with pinstripes on the toms, an emperor x reverse-dot on the snare, and an aquarian super-kick on the bass with no muffling and a felt beater. I just keep em tuned up and in good shape and they sound pretty decent. Pretty basic rock-style setup.

My drum mics aint the best, but they're good enough. I use the CAD-pro 7-pc kit. They just clip on the rims and the overheads are 2 pencil condensers. My overhead setup is basically the Recorderman method (Google it) with supplemental close-micing of everything else. It's 7 tracks total and I run everything into a Firepod and Cubase LE. They record pretty good and don't require much tweaking. I just go for a basic rock drum sound - semi-boomy kick with some attack, shotgun blast snare, and big toms. Drums are probably the hardest to record, so it takes a lot of trial and error. Just play with a lot and you'll figure out how to get your setup working for you.
