Raid 1 or time machine for two drives?

Running Macbook Pro 10.8.5 16 G Ram Quad Core, with Cubase 7. Have Omega 500g and G-tech 1tb, connected USB 2.0 and 3.0 respectively thru my powered hub. How best to save recording, some photos, and a few misc. other things on the two drives?

If you want to save your stuff to 2 drives AT THE SAME TIME...then RAID1 is the way to go...BUT....BOTH of those drives have to be driven from the MB thru a RAID card...

OR...you can get a RAID1 external USB hard drive...but the transfer rate will go down a little...and that may not be a problem for you...

OR...you can save to your internal HD then use the external HD for backup...there are inexpensive backup programs that will automate the process for you...
Unfortunatly I'm not a Mac guy...Windows only, sorry....so I can't give you names of the backup software for you to try...
BUT....I think you could do essentially the same thing with Mac's Time Machine...
