I read this and thought "Damn, for $20, I can use them on guitar cabinets and stuff for headphone mixes while all my good mics are all over the drum kit, and if they are good enough, use them on toms, too, since they have the little tom clip"
So... I rode up to the closest store (4 min away) bought the only one they had, and then to the next closest, another 12 minutes away, and bought two more. Brought them home, and set up in front of a guitar cabinet. Perfect for what I want to use them for, and at the price, they cant be beat for ANYONE that just needs a few extra mics while all the good ones are on the kit.
I tried all three... one was slightly better than the other two, marked it as the better sounding one, and tried again. Still thought it best, left it marked.
Next, I pulled out the MXL-603's and fired em up... dude, the radio shack mics dont sound anywhere near as good as these do as a close mic on a guitar cab. Once again, though, the RS's are perfect for what I wanted them for, and saved me about $150 compared to what I was GOING to get (the EV CO4's, which sound WAY better than the RS mics, but once again, just for headphone mixes, no use wasting money.)
I also ran a V67 in front of the cab, and I think the 603's sounded better... the 603's are some nice little mics... I picked up a pair cheap, was gonna sell them and make a few bucks (paid $100/pair), but there is no way now. Really liking them. Excellent mic for the price.
Meant to compare to a 57, too, but forgot before I tore everything back down again. I think the 603's might sound better than a 57 on a cabinet close miced. I'll try soon and see.
