Okay so anyone had this problem with their monitors. If so what did you do to get rid of it. Its the monitor too cause I unplugged the wires and just had the monitors on and there it was faintly mocking me. Its like I am back in the basement recording thru and amp to a tapedeck all over again... :(

I'm assuming you have powered monitors. Sounds like the RF is coming in through your AC line. You can probably hear it faintly on headphones too. About the only thing you can try (other than building a Farrady (?) shield around your monitors) is to find a power strip/surge suppressor that also has RF filtering. I know they're made but don't know the brand name. This might or might not work.

There's a radio tower across the street from my house. It used to bleed into the TV really bad until it finally ruined the tuner circuits. I could hear it in headphones with no signal and even in a corded telephone. When I built my studio I used a metal building hoping to block the RF. I guess I got lucky because absolutely no RF gets inside. Radios and cell phones are completely dead inside.

Oh yeah, I didn't have any problem with my powered near field monitors (M-Audio). They're shielded so you can use them close to a computer monitor. I guess the shielding also blocked RF from getting into the monitors.

Also - try using balanced cable between your mixer ouput and the monitor inputs (assuming your mixer or soundcard outs have balanced connection capability...

Hey Bear, Will monitors perform better or more efficiently using balanced cables? Assuming that RF interferance isn't a problem.

The balanced design is to reduce any noise/interference introduced to the signal as it passes down a wire -- it has no effect on efficiency.

It improves performance in terms of provider a more noise-free signal.

Hmmm but even with the cables unplugged its still there. Will balanced cables plugged in help to get rid of that. If I am getting you correctly the radio is being picked up by my power cord?? Interestingly I listened with some headphones as loud as possible thru my mixer and there was no radio present. Atleast nothing I could hear. I will head to the store see if I can get some balanced cables anyway cause they would be an upgrade. I think my delta 44 supports balanced connects. Got to check that out too. Thanks fellas

If you get the RF even when your cables aren't connected, then yes - it's coming in via your AC........ that can be a lot tougher to deal with.... finding a good RF filter to put on the outlet is probably your best bet.

But going to balanced cables, while generally a good idea for cleaner signals - will not help you in this particular case.

Great stuff. Its weird cause it just started like this week. Hopefully this will help. Thanks again

If you never have experienced this problem before this week, may be the station is having transmitter problems????? Have you made any inquiries directly with the radio station???

Ofcourse its behringers what else. :)

I can't really make out what radio station it is to tell you the truth.

I have a set of the TRUTHS and I have absolutely no problem with the RF shielding.A lot of people have had that problem though and ended up sending them back and getting a refund. How long have you had them and where did you buy them? Can you still send them back? From what I've read on message boards and reviews about the behringer monitors, there is no way to remedy this problem since they were built with poor RF shielding.

Like I said,I dont have any problem at all,so I guess it depends on where you live......I cant pick up a radio station with a radio where I live much less these monitors.:D

I think this is an area where a higher performance product begins to "walk away" from the rest of the field. I say this if the AM detection is occurring without any audio cables being connected. This really shouldn't happen. Of course all this within reason,...if you're close to a broadcast tower, you've got quite a little HAM radio project going.

Shielding is only part of the problem and if you're having to add shielding, it's telling of inferrior design with the built-in amplifiers and or power supply contained within the speakers. The audio amp and power supply sections if well designed, should be able to decouple RF (particularly AM signals) before they get a chance to be rectified, amplified and played out the speaker.

I would see if I could borrow another set of speaker/monitors to see if this still occurs.

Sorry it took so long to get back to this but real life just kicked my a@@ a bit.

Well I have had them for acouple years and unfortunately can't send them back. Funny thing is, is I can't pick up a radio station in my apartment at all with a radio. The signal seems to have faded a bit over the week but yeah this is pretty shoddy.

I just got paid so I am going to try the above suggestions this weekend and let ya know what goes down.

Thanks

Geoff

same problem here

I just moved into this new apartment a couple of months ago, and I'm getting radio bleed over, too. There's a tower about 1/4 mile from my apartment, but the radio station is clearly a country station located in a town about 20 miles from here.

I tried the RF A/C line filter, to no effect. It not only happens when I use the monitors, but also if I'm only listneing through headphones, and have my ART mic preamp hooked up. In fact, it's even worse then.

At my wit's end...
