Radio shack has these "instrument mics" that have the drum rim clip etc. I know everything from Radioshack is supposed to be crap, but these look decent. I've heard a recording where someone used them and they sounded just as good as anything else i've heard, and they look rad for $50 a pop. I need to buy some tom mics at the moment, what do you guys think?

Harvey once said that he tried those, and their pretty good for toms, and pretty awfull for just about anything else. If you just need tom mics, go ahead.

Harvey has recommended the Radio Shack 30-3032 microphone on toms......

Yeah that's the one! I bought one and am going to try it out today.. I'll tell you how it works out. Thanks alot

I'm very interested to see how you like them as I am in the market for drum mics. Anyone use the audix mics for drums? I am also considering those as the have some decent package deals at Musicains Friend.

hey,
They're as i expected... Nothing special, nothing bad. I haven't used anything else, so i have nothing to compare them to. I'm definitely going to buy 2 more of them for the rest of my drums. They feel cheap, nothing worth $50, but they're the cheapest there is so it's nice. I'm sure they'd work great live.

If you have some pretty good overheads they should do pretty good for you for a while. You could use the overheads to pick up the toms and use the Radio Shack mics to boost or cut frequencies on the toms if they sound too thin through the overheads. I dunno.
