"Never meant to be this way"---Very good song-The chord changes between the verse and chorus are real smooth and build up a good tension. I like the musical hook in the chorus too-that almost rock-a-billy sounding guitar or was it keys?(clav?rhodes?). As far as the recording hmmmmm-It seems a little heavy in the mid range?? Was there a bass guitar on the track? I didnt hear it. Other people here are better at diagnosing this stuff-hopefully they'll tell you what was bugging me .
Yeah, my recording techniques are a little rusty, it was my first effort and basically started and learned everything in square one.
The chorus has a piano going through it on straight chords, tracked by acoustic guitars. Yes, there is a bass in it, I've often wondered about bringing it up in the mix, thx for the feedback on that.
I recorded it through Cakewalk 9, using my acoustic Seagull and my Roland XP-50. I have a Samson mic but I'm thinking of upgrading it...
Hey,
I dig the song, vocals, arrangment and vocal phrazing. The recording isn't as good as the song. There was a humming in the intro that I think you could get rid of. The guitar tracks sound like they were ambiently miked from 4 feet away or so. The "piano sound didn't work for me. It came from nowhere and went nowhere. And the bass seemed to take over most of the vocal range without being very punchy on the low end. Could you try and eq it and tighten it up? The vox got boomy, I think, due to its new found competition. I like the song and the vocal phrazing. I think it deserves a remix but, I'm glad I got to listen.
