Rackmount Verb Units

Ok, right now I mainly use SIR reverb. It does an OK job for me (and maybe I just need some better pulses, or learn how to use it better).

What I am wondering is, would a rack verb unit sound a lot better? I am thinking along the lines of a Rumour possibly - something in the 3-500 range.

Secondly, do the just do two channels at a time (one stereo channel), or can you run a couple (a few maybe) stereo channels through it with different verbs? I believe the KSP8 does 4 stereo channels with diff verbs, but I'm not sure on that.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The KSP8 is an 8 buss fx box, so it has 8 channels available in pretty much any combination you'd like. so you could do four stereo channels, eight mono channels, two stereo and four mono, etc. You can do different effects on the different busses. So if you are running 8 mono busses you could ahve unique fx on each channel. I run mine as four mono inputs to four stereo outputs.

The Rumour is a two channel box (stereo), without the ability to do two mono reverbs.

I own a KSP8 and used to own a Rumour, and can highly recommend either or both of them. My own personal opinion is that I don't care for plugin reverbs very much. Hardware still sounds better to me, and the Rumour is the best sounding hardware in the price range you mention.

It's based upon the KDFX architecture used in Kurzweil keyboards (starting after production of the K2500) and in the KSP8. I've been around some nice experimental music labs over the years with some esoteric and cool effects. The Rumour kills anything I've been around when you add in the price part of the equation.
 
I just got the TC Electronic M One XL as an early Christmas present (I couldn't wait LOL) and am very satisfied with it. For $379 it can't be beat! I am in reverb bliss. The Rumour is also a very good unit but for $120 more and considering the shape Kurzweil is in it just didn't seem worth it IMHO. :D

Kurzweil's parent company did go bankrupt. Kurzweil was bought by Samick. I'd hazard to guess Samick is in better financial condition than TC Electronic.

I have heard that Kurzweil stuff is geting harder to obtain. I have also heard that there are quite a few places that are dropping the line (GC, for example). Do you think that that will improve (along with their customer support) under Samick?

Also, have you heard if Samick will make any changes in the Kurzweil stuff (as in cutting corners, etc.)?
 
I'll see if I can call the PR guy at Samick tomorrow and ask him some of your questions. Every thing I've seen indicates they are gung ho on Kurzweil.
 
There really is no way of knowing. Mackie was "gung ho" about RCF, EAW, Fusion etc... Now the Mackie Industrial line is gone, RCF bought themselves back etc...

Time is the true test. That wouldn't stop me from buying a Rumour though.
 
Buy a Rumour... great reverb and delays and laserverb plus nice converters
 
FWIW, I so love the KDFX in my K2500 and K2600 that I have a Rumour on order. I wouldn't think twice about it.
 
Frankly, I have ni reason to believe that either Samick or TC Electronics are in financial trouble. You have also not considered Lexicon, which builds a number of competitive FX boxes.-Richie
 
Back in October it was reported that the Samick buyout of Young Chang had fallen through and that Kurzweil had again filed for bankruptcy. It is a shame considering the quality of the products they have produced over the years. Their keyboards and processors are world class. I didn't intend on starting an uproar with my inference to Kurzweil in my previous post but only wanted to communicate my thought process in selecting the M One XL. To those who took offense please accept my apology; I wasn't calling anyones baby ugly. :)
 
I like the Lexicon and Kurzweil

No I'm not spamming. I really like them.
 
i used several plugin verbs and they can hardly satisfy me,
i love lexicon, but don't have enough money to get me one of their Real Fine units...
reverbs i don't like: Zoom reverbs, Digitech, alesis,
don't get yourself a multi fx machine, they're fun but for me they never sound 'good' enough
