Rackmount Microphone Jack Panel?

I notice most microphone preamps have the microphone connectors in the back of the unit. Seems like it would make more sense if they were in the front, so you can plug any mic into any pre with ease.

Are there any rackmount microphone jack panels? So I can plug a mic into it from the front, and have it go into the preamp. Perhaps for 8 channels on one 1U?

Thanks,

XLR patch panel and yes they can be bought for under $100 in many places for an 8 input panel.

Or you could buy the parts and DIY. I'm currently stocked up for a 24 point XLR panel - I just need to get moving on it! Parts for the whole thing cost me about $100 total.

you need a drill, 8 wall connectors and a 1u panel. pretty simple job

connector x 8 = $19.60
panel ...........= $5.95
....................= $25.55 + S&H

Another option is to use a stage snake type configuration - box on one end, fan on the other. It wouldn't be rack mounted, but could sit on top of a rack, leaned up against a wall, or even just flat on the floor.

That's what I do - it may not be quite as fancy looking, but it is an easy fix to the problem.
