So lots of people say don't use clips in the studio, but some of these same people also praise the Sennheiser e604s, which use clips.....

Is there that much of a difference? really?

anyone with experience with the CAD clips

they'll mostly be used for recording live band practices.

I would say don't use clips, use stands. A LOT more stable that clips and a LOT more versatile - you don't always want your mics 1" off the skins!

You can use e604's without clips, I use them on stands all the time

I think the reason I don't like the clips is there is a lot of structure born sound traveling into the mic from the shells and rims and it seems to color the sound in ways I don't like.

A lot noisier too.

that's what I've found too..

I'm a sample hound so I use clips because I don't particularly give a damn. :D That being said, I get some good sounds without the samples on there. I love a close mic'd tom.
