gimmi your mic!
hi --

do you know any stores/websites where I can get a 2U rack panel custom engraved and cutout? I want to rack mount vintage console mic preamps/eq and needed to get some holes cut out.

Thanks!

Nova, I have a lot of solid aluminum rack spacer plates (one, two and three space) that could be drilled out. I also have quite a few rack shelves (all three space). Would any of that stuff do you any good?

hey Trak Rat --

thanks for your offer, but I just ordered a blank 2U rack panel. Too bad! Now I am looking for a place where they can drill holes and stuff.

I have the equipment to cut pretty much any metal. If you mark the blank and ship it to me, i'll cut it to your specifications.

If your needing holes tapped, just give me the screw size and I can tap the holes for you.

Nominal charge for shipping and cutting.

Try a local Trophy shop. Those guy's know a thing or two about engraving. ;)

engraving?

A machinist shop with a CNC machine could do it. I might be able to write a program for you. I have Mastercam 9.1 a CAD/CAM software.

If that's way over the top. Maybe, stamping it may be the economical way to go

Holes?

I made my own holes with a hole saw/arbor. And then deburred the holes with my deburring tool.

They turned out as well as I had hoped!

IF you have other geometric shapes to contend with don't hesitate to get it done from a machinist. The chances of getting near perfect shapes won't work unless you have a milling machine. Unless, you work well with a jigsaw and a file.....attached is a picture of my 5u rack mount.

No problem if you want it...

As for the list of equipment:

Chop saw w/ diamond blade
Jigsaw, metal cutting blade
Scroll Saw, metal cutting blade
Drills
More drill bits than you can shake a stick at.
Bench grinder
buffer
Table Saw
Router
Dremels and tools
Tap and die kits
Mig Welder
Cutting torch
Compressors
Riveting guns

I don't have an engraving machine. I free hand some stuff that comes out good, but i've always found a sticker pack works better. I can cut, tap, drill, weld, buff, and mount anything that you need.

Just give me a shout when your ready and i'll send you my mailing address. I do metal and woodwork as a hobby. I'm not in it to make money, just to "help a brotha out" so to speak.
