I make a lot of trips to my parents' place, and they have this great sounding room with hardwoods that I always like to record in. I'm not trying to get super awesome results, but the room sounds so nice that the recordings always have a pleasant quality to them. It's inspirational, and it usually makes me write some new stuff. But I hate the mess it always makes when I want to record.

So I put together this rack-mountable porta-studio:

Vestax HDR 8 recorder -- (rack-mountable 8-track hard disk recorder) $70

Behri Ultragain dual mic pre -- $50

Alesis Quardraverb -- $50

Behri matched pair of SDCs (C2s) -- $50

4-space rack bag -- $30

The whole thing cost $250, fits into one 4-space rack bag, and I've gotten some really nice results from it. I know, I know, Behringer sucks, blah blah blah. But it's really perfectly fine for my purposes.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my positive experience.

carry on.

Cool :) I've been thinking about building something like that, but it would have gotten too expensive.

mine is evetually gonna be something like this that will fit in a gator rack studio 4u...it has a slot for a laptop and so this is how it will look.
2 firepods
a power conditioner
and something else sweet that fits in 1 rack space....if anyone has any suggestions of something rackmount to go there let me know.

I'm sorry to go off topic but.
I once had this idea when I was 16 to bolt a tascam 4-track to the dash of my car and hook it up to the speakers so I could record anyware. HAHAA! :D

I like your Ideas much better, Silly me! :)
