Bring Back Transfat!
I'm starting to look for FX to use with an Omni studio which essentialy is a Delta66. Are there advantages to rack units as opposed to software? I'd like to come up with some rich delays, echo, chorus, and reverbs.

IMHO quality stand alone FX processors are better than the software stuff, although i have some pretty kick-ass software plugin's. If you want to go that route, look into TC Works plugins, Ultrafunk, & especially Waves plugins.

I wouldn't even know where to start with rack units.

I once posed a question here that went something like this. How does software fx match the quality of outboards. The outboard hardware has all this circuitry dedicated for that particular effect and the software is just emulating it?? I dont see how software could match quality outboard hardware. But then again I am the village idiot and know nothing.
I know that when I emulate Jeff Beck the hardware is definately better.

I think if you go $$$ for $$$, software plugins will kick outboard gears ass....lets say you get you a Lexicon MPX1 for $750.....you have one channel of kick ass effects....anyone wanna tell me the story about how you cant get a plugin package for $750 that will match it?...make sure you start with "once upon a time"....

and to top it off, that plugin package isnt just good for one channel....as many as your CPU will allow....so lets say you set up your auxillary channels with 2 delays, 2 reverbs, and 1 chorus.....now you have to compare your $750 plugin package to 5 - $150 units......

sounds like an Alesis Nanoverb to me......

What kind of problems do we run into when trying to use plugins with software like Ntrack? Do they show up in the list of available FX? That's probably my primary concern. With rack gear I know I can go out and come back in without software telling me I've got a problem. Are there some plugs that play nicely with Ntrack?

The only plug-ins I've had problems with were the Waves plug-ins. At first I couldn't re-open any project with Waves fx on any tracks. Some kind soul on the N-Track board suggested the "expand track to stereo" option, which "tricks" the stubborn plug-in into thinking the track is stereo. This worked fine, and besides that little problem, I've had no problems with any plug-ins - I have the Blue Line, The DB-Audioware Mastering Limiter, Waves NPP and RenCollection, and a few others misc. fx (freeverb, etc...). Every time I installed a plug-in, the effect would appear in the N-Track fx menu next time I opened the program. Good luck!

I'm impressed with TDM plugins. It's not worth the crashes and limited track numbers that comes with host based plug ins imho

There a site in particular to download from? And let me ask again...do most of them show up in Ntracks FX menu, or do they reside elsewhere?

Thanks guys.
