Quirky Christmas Song

The bass seems really boomy to me, its all sub and nothing else. It also sounds to me like there is a little bit of clipping, but what do i know.

Hi Chris,
I'm listening on cans, sounds great to me.

Nice playing, and that guitar is sweet.
I like the little dissonant picking parts, really makes the melody sing.

Only thing I hear was some sibilance,on the word "St."(Nick)
Mabey a deEsser?

You really have a fine voice man,I totally enjoyed the tune.

Pete

o0Charlie0o: Must be the Taylor booming. No bass, just acoustic guitar, vocals, and jingle bells.

Muzeman: Thanks.

I hear some mp3 encoding issues but it's a cool tune man, really enjoyed it. Good stuff.

This song reminds me of some of the young singer-songwriters making their mark these days.
I liked the use of the sliegh bells.
Very unique take on acoustic lead playing here.
Very Respectable effort on this, Cudo's to you sir.

Santa Inc (second take)

I remixed this to take care of some of the "boominess" in the guitar, tame the bells a little, and take care of some of the sibilence. I don't quite have the hang of my Waves plugins and everything I tried just made the vocals sound worse, I just just fixed certain spots a bit with EQ. I hope it's not too much, 'cause I want to send this out in my Christmas cards and I don't really have the time to retrack the vocals.

Also, can anyone give me any ideas on how to polish out the "AM radio" sound this mix seems to have?

Thanks.
Christopher

PS - Thanks HevyD47CA and lynx!

OK this is a really good song and both the guitar and vocal performances are very good also.

Forgive my bluntness: the sibilance is a real problem for me. It is frequent and it is a harsh sibilance that borders on distortion, as opposed to just a little lispyness. I am the furthest thing from a Waves expert that there is, but I would bet you a Coke that no amount of Waves tinkering is going to completely clear that up. It is a shame because you've got a good voice and it sounds like a keeper performance in all other respects.

I would experiment with tightening up the reverb on everything, as I think the echo contributes to that sense which you describe as the "AM radio" thing. Doesn't sounds as bad as Am radio to me and it could be as simple as the 128 kbps mp3 rip you've got here. Does the .wav file sound the same to you?

Christopher,

It's a great song.

I'm hearing some kind of distortion on one of the guitars, I don't know it it was maybe tracked too hot, it only seems to come up on the loud notes. Other than that, I agree with qwincy about the reverb.. that might be what is giving it the 'AM' feel.

The only things with reverb are the bells and vocals. The guitars are not reverbed and they were tracked way less "hot" than the vocals. I wonder if the reverb on the vocals might be adding to the sibilence, I'll have to check that out.

And, yes, it does sound the same on the WAV to me.
