Now that I've worked on my room...my ADAT is loud. Any ideas that work to quiet down the beast. Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, but my studio is a one room thing. I generally record direct to the ADAT and need to view the meters. I would like to make this a DIY project. Has anyone built a "Quiet the ADAT box"?

I record alot of rock/metal so most of my sound sources tend to be loud. When i've had to record something like Acoustic guitars, I typically try to get the source as far from the Adat as possible. Also try to use the mics polar pattern to your advantage. In a pinch you can cover your rack with a few blankets but I would not recommend doing this for very long at all.
I've never tried this but in theory it might work? Mic the adat and flip the phase of that track. Mix it back in with the source track to cancel out the adat sound in the source track. Assuming you didnt get too much of the source in the Adat track it might work. Then again it could be really bad, worth a shot though.
Hope this helps.

I place as much sound absorbing material between the ADAT and the mic as possible: foam, large cardboard boxes full of material, drapes. You get the idea.
