Sorry to get off topic, but aren't they clipping the track, not the actual bus itself? I thought it was nearly impossible to overload a bus in the digital world. Or am I thinking of a separate concept?

You can get clipping at either level.. If 10 tracks at -1dbfs go into a bus, the bus clips.

If *two* tracks at -1dBFS (or considerably lower) go to the same buss the buss clips.

Actually, I was thinking if 4 tracks at -5.999..

Exactly. I usually see it when they bounce down a group/bus because the PC's freaking out, lighting it up like fireworks and then moving on with a trashed submix.
