quickest and easiest way to make a drum machine sound real(for drummers)

the way i make my drum machine(dr 660) sound real is to put the kick and snare on their own tracks than put the toms across a stereo set and the cymbals on a seperate stereo set. than i put a click on another track(this can all be done with the 660 and nothing else).
than i go back and i mic up my kit minus the kick drum and i play to the click. wola! real drums with perfect timing.

I wondered the same thing! That seems like a lot of trouble to humanize your machine. Do you mix the two at mixdown?

the reason for not just playing the whole kit to the click is cause my feet dont have the stamina to do blast beats all day but my hands do. and the things that sound the crappiest on a drum machine are the cymbals,snare and toms anyhow so why not take the extra time and make it good.
