Right now I have a Yamaha MG 16/4 for live sound.

I was just wondering if there was something I could buy that I could run my Main Outs from my mixer, into this device, and then it splits all my 10 tracks up seperatly; like the Mackie Onyx mixers. Basically, how would I go about recording with the Yamaha 16/4. I can record with it now, but only a single track. Its hard then to turn up the vocals, drums, guitar, ex.

your mixer would have to have its own "outs" or "inserts" on every channel..if it does...all you will need is something to convert it into your computer...like THIS

Recording the "Main Outs" will only give you a left and right mix of whatever is going through them, you won't get each seperate track, no matter what sound card you have.

One method is to use the Direct outs or The inserts on the mixer to rout each channel to your computer's sound card...now this means that if you want to record 4 tracks at once, you will need 4 inputs on your computer (two stereo or 4 mono)[Delta 44].

If you want what the Onyx has, do i even have to say what you should do?

I know what I should do, but I don't have $1k to do it.

Anyways, here are some pictures of my mixer and what it has.

You dont need a thousand bucks to do what you want to do.

What you need is a sound card that has more than 2 inputs.

Then depending on how many inputs the card has, get that many number of TRS cables and insert each of them into the yamah's INSERT s on the back, but only HALF-WAY...first click.

Then do the same at the computers end, and there you go. Now you can record each "Microphone" seperatly.

TRS Cables- do they have 1/4 plugs on the end. Thats what my mixer has. (I have attached a previous post with the rear of my mixer)

Yes, you'll want 1/4" TRS cables.

What this does, inserting half way, is acutally use the TRS scheme that would send the signal (pre EQ usually, pre fader usually) out, then back into the signal change, (Insersts are used for effects and stuff) by inserting it half way, you are basically just using the "send" part of the cable and not have anything sent back into the signal, so it acts as just an output for that microphone.
