quick nub question

I'm recording a two track (guitar & vocals) song on Sonar. Should I put a compression on each track, or one on the whole mix, or all of the above? Thanks!

I would put compression on both. But that's me. How are you recording? Ele guitar or acoustic? plugged in di or mic? The vocal's I would put some soft knee compression.
 
How's your compressor skillz? Got a decent ear for what it's doin?

If yes...I say "follow your ears, grasshoppa" :p

If no....I say "use mic technique first and compression sparingly"

Why don't you post a mix with no compression and let us hear it?
 
I use compression on probably 60% of my tracks, but I use it very, very sparingly...maybe "lightly" would be a better word.
 
If it sounds fine, there is no need to add compression or any other efx. I only add any efx if a track seems bland, and then add a little at a time until it sounds better.
