I want to do a one man noisecore band type of project... i want to record my vocals... druming. bass playing all together onto one tape.

I have a 414mkII 4track and 3 cheap mics...

1.) will i need the 4 track?
2.) what other stuff will i need?
3.) is there any certain way i should go about doing this (i cant play drums and bass at the same time)

Yes i am extremely new to all of this but its very exciting and i like learning about it... thanks!

Yes i am extremely new to all of this but its very exciting and i like learning about it... thanks!

Start by miking up the drums thusly: One on the kick (Ch 1), one on the snare (ch 2) and one over the whole kit (ch 3). Pan them all left and switch the Rec Sel of Track 1 to BUSS L.

Record drums.

Next: Mic up a bass amp (or just plug the bass straight in). pan right and switch the Rec Sel of Track 2 to BUSS R (alternatively: If you're plugged into ch 2 switch the Rec Sel for Track 2 to DIRECT).

Play along with the drum track you've just recorded. Make sure Track 1 Rec Sel switch is in the OFF position.

Beyond this point there are a number of variations. For example: You could record a guitar on Track 3, then bounce drums, bass and guitar down to track 4, and then record more stuff on tracks 1 to 3. Or you could record two guitars on tracks 3 and 4 and leave it at that. Or... you could record two guitars onto tracks 3 and 4, mix all the tracks down to stereo on another machine and then bring them back onto two tracks of a fresh tape in the 414. It all depends on what you want to do really.
