I am very seriously considering this item.

Questions: Anyone successfully using it with an older Pentium 3 computer?

Where would you rate the preamp(s) quality. I currently use a DMP3.

Does it play well with Cakewalk? I am using Guitar Tracks Pro.

What is your level of satisfaction with this box? Any other words of wisdom?

Thanks.

i love it!!! preamps are very transparent and clean. it's an awesome interface. i'm running a clereron 2.7 ghz processor and i'm not having any probs... i recommend it :D

Memory is going to matter alot more than processor. What's the spec of your computer? I have the firepod and have absolutley loved it. I'm running Vegas and have had no problems. I haven't tried Cakewalk with it, but used it in the past and don't see why there would be any problems.

What kind of recording are you going to be doing?

P3 996 Mhz processor, 512 RAM. It's a Dell, maxed out at 512 RAM.

I'm starting to get into recording a drum kit. So I need the extra inputs. I have been using a USB device from Aardvark, and it's been working well for me. But can only record 2 tracks at a time.

I also have an external hard drive with 8mb cache, so that may help some with the memory issue.

The Firepod sure looks like the best deal going for 8 inputs. But I am right on the line of their posted minimum specs for processor speed, so I wondered if there was anyone else out there running this successfully with a similar computer.

Well, I'd suggest waiting on dropping $500 for a firepod and start looking at getting a computer upgrade. Because, you might be able to record the multiple tracks, but then you got to remember what additional tracks will you put on top and if you are going to run any plugins etc.

Thanks for the replies. I understand what you are saying, and a computer upgrade would be nice in any case. However, I am currently able to mix 14 to 18 tracks or so, (depending on plug-in count) with no problem on my current set-up. And this is usually enough for me. But, getting multiple drum tracks in the mix could change that I suppose.
