questions about tascam dp01fx

just bought one tonight with powered monitors and shure condenser mic. I can't get any sound to come out of the monitors. I'm using 1/4 inch cable out of the stereo mix on the recorder to the monitors and it's not working. Any thoughts?

Is it possible you can try it with a pair of headphones, this would help work out weather it is the Tascam or the monitors, If there is a problem at all that is.
