What do publshers do, and how did they become publishers? What "magic" takes place the instant a publisher waves his wand and declares a song "published"?
I haven't been able to find any answers anywhere. Maybe someone out there can help. Thanks.

Publishers

Publishers serve lots of functions, especially to young writers. Without getting into long point by point explanations, good publishers can:
- help a writer strengthen and focus their writing skills
- Pitch the writer's songs to key people in the
music industry in order to get songs recorded.
- In general, publishers wind up being song editor,Head
shrink, big brother and business partner to the
writer.
These are very broad statements for alot of little things that good publishers do for writers along their career trek.
If you need to know something specific to your situation, feel free to ask. I'd be happy to help if I can.

BEWARE!

BEWARE FRIENDS!
I don't know who David Hooper is. He may be a priest in his spare time - I don't know!
What I do know is I've never paid anyone to listen to my songs. I've been a professional songwriter for 10 years and have had cuts by major artists.
Again, I'm not saying that this guy is being dishonest. I just don't think you should pay anyone to listen to your songs for any critique or publishing assistance!

Thanks for your responses! And thanks for the word of caution, L.A., I will be careful.

I understand your concern.

People don't pay me to simply "listen" to songs. They pay me to come up with promotion and marketing plans for their music careers.

http://www.indiebiz.com/david_hooper/ has more info on me and how I got started. I'll also be able to answer any questions you guys have.

If you're interested in sending a demo, there is no charge for that. http://www.indiebiz.com/ has info.
